Bangladesh Mango Varieties, What We Export

Bangladesh produces more than 72 mango cultivars, of which seven to eight varieties are commercially exported. Of these, a handful command strong B2B demand from UK, EU and GCC importers: Amrapali, Himsagar, Langra and Haribhanga are the primary export-grade varieties. Zayin Agro works with grower networks in the principal mango-producing regions, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj and Satkhira, to source and export these varieties to professional buyers.

  • Amrapali, the dominant export variety, accounting for the majority of Bangladesh's mango shipments. Mid-season ripening (July–August), excellent firmness for transit, moderate fibre, consistent sizing. Widely demanded by UK and GCC ethnic wholesale buyers.
  • Himsagar (Khirsapat), an early-season premium variety (May–June) with GI indication, prized for its rich sweetness and low fibre content. Highly sought-after by Bangladeshi and Bengali diaspora buyers in the UK and EU; shorter commercial availability window means pre-season booking is essential.
  • Langra, a mid-season variety (June–July) known for its distinctive flavour profile. Popular with both Bangladeshi and North Indian diaspora communities; exported to the UK, Italy, France and Gulf states.
  • Haribhanga, a premium variety from the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj belt, ripening mid-to-late season (July). High sweetness and attractive skin colour make it a strong performer in retail-facing programmes.
  • Fazli / BARI varieties, late-season options (August–September) extending the available export window. Subject to buyer confirmation and seasonal crop performance.

All mango varieties are subject to season, crop volume and phytosanitary clearance. Contact us in February–March for the forthcoming season's programme, as airfreight capacity and grower allocation fill early for premium varieties.

Seasonality

Bangladesh Mango and Fruit Export Calendar

Bangladesh Fresh Fruit Export Season, Representative Guide
Himsagar / KhirsapatMid-May to mid-June. Early-season premium; short window, book by March.
LangraMid-June to mid-July. Mid-season; strong UK and EU demand.
HaribhangaJuly. Rajshahi/Satkhira origin; high sweetness and colour.
AmrapaliJuly to late August. Principal export volume; best transit firmness.
Fazli / BARI-4August to early September. Late-season; extends the mango window.
LitchiMay to June. Air-freight only; very short peak window.
JackfruitJune to September. Large-format; air and reefer sea options.
GuavaAugust to November (main); secondary flush Feb–April.

The Bangladesh mango season runs approximately May to September, though peak commercial export activity concentrates in June–August. The overlapping variety windows allow a buyer to run a continuous mango programme from mid-May to late August by rotating across Himsagar, Langra, Haribhanga and Amrapali in sequence. We work with buyers to map this rotation against their sales calendar and airfreight bookings.

Beyond Mango

Jackfruit, Guava, Litchi and Seasonal Fruits

Bangladesh is a significant source of tropical fruits beyond mango, and Zayin Agro works with buyers looking to diversify their Bangladesh-origin fresh fruit programme.

Jackfruit (kathal) is Bangladesh's national fruit and one of the largest tropical fruits by weight. Export-grade jackfruit is packed in individual compartments to prevent bruising; it appeals to both the South Asian diaspora and the broader UK and EU health-food retail sector, where ripe and unripe (green) jackfruit are in demand. The main season runs June to September. Both air freight (for ripe fruit) and reefer sea (for green/unripe) are viable depending on the buyer's product brief.

Litchi (lychee) is a highly seasonal, perishable fruit available only in May–June. Export is exclusively by air freight due to the 5–7 day shelf life; pre-season booking and fast pack-house turnaround are essential. Demand from the UK and GCC diaspora retail is strong during the window.

Guava (peyara) is available in two main flushes, August to November and a smaller flush February to April. Bangladeshi guava varieties are typically large, white-fleshed and aromatic, with appeal to South Asian and wider ethnic retail buyers. Good shelf life relative to tropical comparators makes it suitable for both air and reefer sea freight.

Availability of all fruit lines is subject to season and crop confirmation. Speak to our agro team about building a multi-variety seasonal programme across mango, jackfruit, litchi and guava to maximise your Bangladesh origin sourcing window.

Handling

Pack-House, Hot-Water Treatment and Air Freight

Mango export from Bangladesh demands tight handling discipline at every stage. Amrapali and other firm varieties can withstand 24–36 hours of air transit when properly handled; Himsagar and Langra, being softer and more aromatic, require earlier harvest-to-pack turnaround and more careful cushioning.

Our pack-house process for mango: fruit is received from growers, pre-sorted to remove physical damage, graded by size (typically 200g–500g), and packed into buyer-specified export cartons, commonly 3kg, 4kg or 5kg nets with individual fruit wrapping and ventilated corrugated cartons. Where destination market requirements or buyer specification calls for hot-water treatment (HWT), immersion at 48–52°C for up to 90 minutes to satisfy phytosanitary pest-disinfestation requirements, this is carried out prior to packing and certified on the phytosanitary document. HWT is a prerequisite for mango export to certain markets including the United States; UK and EU markets typically rely on phytosanitary inspection rather than treatment, but we can arrange HWT on request.

Airfreight is booked with our partners at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a frequency matched to buyer programme requirements, typically two to four flights per week during peak mango season. For large-volume buyers, we can co-load or charter belly space. All mango consignments travel temperature-controlled from pack-house to hold.

Markets

Why the UK Leads, and the GCC Opportunity

The United Kingdom is Bangladesh's largest export market for fresh mango and has been for decades. The UK's Bangladeshi diaspora community, one of Europe's largest, drives retail and wholesale demand for premium varieties that are culturally significant: Himsagar and Langra carry strong seasonal associations and are sought after as gifts and celebration fruits. UK ethnic wholesalers, Asian supermarkets and mainstream retailers with ethnic-food ranges all take Bangladesh mango during the season. Bangladesh mango has appeared on shelves in major UK supermarket chains, demonstrating the market's maturity and openness to the origin. Our UK market page covers buyer-channel detail and import requirements.

The GCC is a growing corridor. The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar each have large South Asian migrant communities for whom Bangladesh mango is a seasonal staple, and Gulf-based hypermarkets and specialty fresh-produce importers actively source Bangladesh fruit during the season. Halal sourcing is embedded in our supply chain, produce is sourced from Muslim-majority farming communities and handled accordingly, which simplifies buyer due-diligence in GCC markets. For GCC import documentation requirements, see our UAE and GCC market page.

The EU, Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands in particular, receives Bangladesh mango through ethnic-food wholesale networks. SPS compliance for EU phytosanitary import is handled through our standard documentation package.

Good to know

Buyer FAQ, Bangladesh Mango and Fresh Fruit Export

Which mango varieties do you export from Bangladesh?

Our principal export varieties are Amrapali, Himsagar (Khirsapat), Langra and Haribhanga. Amrapali accounts for the largest volume and has the best transit firmness. Himsagar and Langra are premium early-to-mid season varieties with higher retail value but shorter availability windows. Fazli and BARI-4 extend the season into August–September. Exact variety availability is confirmed season-by-season, we recommend discussing your programme requirements with us in February or March for the forthcoming season.

When is the Bangladesh mango export season?

The commercial export season runs approximately mid-May to late August, with the following approximate variety windows: Himsagar mid-May to mid-June; Langra mid-June to mid-July; Haribhanga July; Amrapali July to late August; Fazli August to early September. Litchi runs concurrently with early mango (May–June) and must be booked separately due to its very short shelf life and high airfreight competition during peak mango season.

Why is the UK the leading destination for Bangladesh mango?

The UK has Europe's largest Bangladeshi diaspora community, with strong cultural demand for premium varieties, particularly Himsagar and Langra, that are not commercially available from any other origin. UK ethnic wholesalers and supermarkets have established direct import programmes with Bangladesh over many years, creating a mature, high-frequency trade channel. Bangladesh mango has been stocked by major UK supermarkets, reflecting both scale of demand and the quality achievable with proper pack-house and compliance infrastructure.

What phytosanitary compliance is required for mango export to UK and EU?

Every mango consignment requires a phytosanitary certificate from Bangladesh's Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), issued after inspection at the authorised packing station. For UK imports, APHA advance notification via PEACH and physical inspection at a border control post is required. For EU imports, TRACES NT notification and EU phytosanitary import documentation apply. Hot-water treatment (HWT) is not mandatory for UK or EU destinations but can be arranged on buyer request. We handle all documentation as standard. See our GlobalG.A.P. compliance guide for further detail.

Do you export jackfruit, guava and litchi as well as mango?

Yes. Our seasonal fruit programme includes jackfruit (June–September), litchi (May–June, air-freight only) and guava (August–November main season). These can be booked as standalone consignments or as part of a mixed Bangladesh-origin tropical fruit programme. Contact us to confirm current season availability and whether your target variety and volume is feasible on your required timeline.

Is Bangladesh mango suitable for halal retail in the GCC?

Yes. Fresh mango and other fruits are inherently permissible under halal dietary requirements. Beyond the product itself, our supply chain, from farming communities through pack-house to export, does not involve cross-contamination with non-halal materials. Halal sourcing documentation for GCC buyer due-diligence is available on request. See our UAE and GCC market page for further import and compliance detail.
