Jute Bags and Fresh Produce from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is one of the fastest-growing markets for sustainable packaging in the GCC, with the green packaging sector valued at USD 2.52 billion (2024) and projected to reach USD 3.69 billion by 2033. Jute, the original sustainable packaging material, fully biodegradable and naturally grown, is well positioned within this growth trajectory, particularly as Saudi Arabia advances plastic reduction measures in retail and food service as part of the Kingdom's broader Vision 2030 sustainability agenda. 60 percent of Saudi consumers prefer sustainable packaging; 75 percent indicate willingness to pay a premium for it.
Bangladesh is the world's principal origin for export-grade jute goods, and Zayin Trade International supplies jute gunny sacks, woven jute bags, hessian, and food-grade jute packaging to Saudi food processors, agricultural importers, and packaging distributors in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. Alongside jute, Zayin exports fresh and vegetable produce to the Kingdom via Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdulaziz Port Dammam, with sea transit times of 15 to 25 days from Chittagong.
Bangladesh vegetable exports to the GCC region surged 313 percent year-on-year in FY2024–25 to 58,766 tonnes, driven by improved reefer infrastructure at Chittagong and growing South Asian diaspora demand across the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia's food import dependency, with 80 to 92 percent of food requirements met by imports, makes Bangladesh a strategically important origin for both agri-produce and the natural-fibre packaging used to store and distribute it.
