What We Export: Specialty Produce from Bangladesh

Zayin Agro is the fresh-produce division of Zayin Trade International, sourcing and exporting specialty vegetables and premium fruit from Bangladesh to importer, wholesale and retail buyers in the United Kingdom, European Union and GCC region. Bangladesh produces more than 57 commercially exported vegetable types and over 37 fruit varieties; our programme concentrates on the high-value, air-freight lines that diaspora-serving wholesalers and ethnic-food retailers depend on year-round.

Our current export programme includes two main lines. Fresh specialty and ethnic vegetables, among them bitter gourd (karela), pointed gourd (potol), okra, long bean, brinjal, taro, drumstick, kakrol, green chilli and bottle gourd, are airfreighted to meet the tighter shelf-life windows of UK and GCC buyers. Fresh fruits are led by Bangladesh mango, notably the Amrapali, Himsagar, Langra and Haribhanga varieties, complemented by jackfruit, guava and litchi in their respective seasons. Exact availability and final crop list are confirmed with each buyer prior to booking.

Infrastructure

Pack-House Handling and Cold-Chain Capability

Fresh produce quality at destination is determined in the hours between harvest and aircraft hold. Zayin Agro operates with a dedicated pack-house workflow: crops are collected from grower networks, transported to our facility, and immediately sorted and graded to remove damaged or undersized units. Produce is packed into buyer-specified cartons with appropriate cushioning and ventilation, weighed and labelled to destination market requirements, then moved through pre-cooling before handover to our freight partner at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.

Cold-chain integrity is maintained throughout, pre-cooling at the pack-house, refrigerated transport to the airport, and temperature-controlled handling during air transit. For sea-freight consignments of hardier lines, reefer container loading is coordinated through Chittagong Port. We work with SGS and Bureau Veritas on third-party inspection where buyers require pre-shipment certification of condition and weight.

Markets

Who Buys from Bangladesh, and Why

The United Kingdom is the single largest international buyer of Bangladeshi fresh produce, driven by one of the largest South Asian diaspora communities in Europe. Ethnic wholesalers serving supermarkets, cash-and-carry operators and independent retailers in cities including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford and Leicester take regular consignments of specialty vegetables and are the dominant buyers of Bangladesh mango during the May–August season. Our UK market page has buyer-specific detail.

The GCC, led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, represents the second major corridor. The Gulf's large Bangladeshi expatriate population generates consistent demand for familiar varieties such as bitter gourd, okra and long bean. Halal sourcing is standard in our supply chain; produce is sourced from Muslim-majority farming communities and handled without cross-contamination from non-halal materials, supporting buyer due-diligence in halal-sensitive retail environments. See our UAE and GCC market page for import documentation requirements.

Within the EU, the Netherlands (as a distribution hub), Germany and France receive Bangladeshi specialty vegetables, typically through ethnic wholesalers and distributors serving South Asian and Middle Eastern communities. SPS compliance with EU phytosanitary import requirements is a prerequisite for all shipments, and we coordinate TRACES NT notification and EU phytosanitary import formalities through our logistics partners.

Compliance

Phytosanitary Certification and Food Safety

Every consignment of fresh produce exported by Zayin Agro is accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh, the competent authority for plant health inspection and certification. Produce passes through the authorised packing station in Shyampur (Dhaka) for inspection and certification before departure. This is a non-negotiable requirement for UK, EU and GCC import clearance.

Beyond the mandatory phytosanitary certificate, buyers increasingly require evidence of Good Agricultural Practice at farm level. GlobalG.A.P. certification is on our compliance roadmap; we discuss current status and documentation openly with buyers during the RFQ process. For GCC buyers, our halal sourcing documentation is available on request. Third-party pre-shipment inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas) can be arranged per consignment. For a detailed guide to Bangladesh produce export compliance, see our GlobalG.A.P. and compliance guide; for certificates, visit our certifications page.

Buyer FAQ, Zayin Agro Division

What fresh vegetables and fruits does Zayin Agro export from Bangladesh?

Our vegetable range includes specialty and ethnic lines such as bitter gourd (karela/korola), pointed gourd (potol), okra (ladies finger), long bean (borboti), brinjal, taro, drumstick, teasel gourd (kakrol), green chilli and bottle gourd. Our fruit range is led by Bangladesh mango (Amrapali, Himsagar, Langra, Haribhanga) plus jackfruit, guava and litchi in season. The exact crop list and available volumes are confirmed with each buyer prior to booking, contact us for current availability.

Which markets do you supply, UK, EU or GCC?

All three. The UK is our primary market for both mango and specialty vegetables. The GCC, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in particular, is a strong secondary corridor for specialty vegetables serving the expatriate community. We also supply EU buyers in the Netherlands, Germany and France. Each market has distinct import documentation requirements; we handle phytosanitary and EU SPS paperwork as part of the shipment.

Is the produce halal-compliant for GCC buyers?

Yes. Our fresh produce is sourced from Muslim-majority farming communities in Bangladesh and handled through a supply chain without cross-contamination from non-halal materials. Halal sourcing documentation is available on request. For GCC markets that require additional food safety certification alongside halal compliance, we can discuss specific requirements during the RFQ process.

Do you offer phytosanitary certification and GlobalG.A.P.?

A phytosanitary certificate from Bangladesh's Department of Agricultural Extension is issued per consignment, this is mandatory for all fresh produce exports and is included in our standard documentation set. GlobalG.A.P. farm-level certification is on our compliance roadmap; please ask us about current status and available documentation at the time of your enquiry.

What is the minimum order quantity for fresh produce?

For air-freighted specialty vegetables, we work with buyers from small trial consignments up to full aircraft pallet loads, depending on the line and season. For larger volumes shipped by reefer sea freight, FCL quantities apply. Contact us with your target volume, destination and required varieties, we will confirm availability and MOQ quickly.

Can you supply samples and documentation for buyer due-diligence?

Yes. Sample consignments, phytosanitary certificates, packing specifications and third-party inspection reports (SGS / Bureau Veritas) are all available on request. We understand that buyers need full documentation before committing to a programme and we prepare complete due-diligence packs as standard.
