Jute Rope Manufacturer & Exporter: Construction, Diameter and the Case for Natural Fibre

As a jute rope manufacturer and exporter, Zayin supplies twisted and braided rope in diameters from 3 mm to 60 mm, produced entirely from 100% Tossa jute, the strongest and most lustrous of the three main jute varieties. Tossa fibre, grown in the river deltas of Bangladesh, has a higher tensile strength than White jute and a finer surface, which gives finished rope a tighter, more uniform lay and better appearance for visible applications such as decking, interior design and display.

The global market is moving toward natural-fibre rope in applications where biodegradability and sustainability are valued. EU procurement specifications for landscaping and civil projects increasingly favour materials that leave no synthetic residue, and jute rope, unlike polypropylene or nylon, meets this requirement by design. It fully biodegrades in soil and marine environments without producing microplastics.

Construction types

Twisted vs Braided Jute Rope, What to Specify

Twisted rope (3-strand laid): The most widely supplied construction. Three bundles of yarn are twisted together in opposing directions, creating a self-tightening helix under load. Twisted jute rope is strong, flexible and easy to splice or knot; it is the standard for agricultural tying, sack bundling, packaging and general industrial use. Available in all diameters from 3 mm to 60 mm.

Braided rope: Multiple yarn strands are interlocked in a diamond or round-braid pattern. Braided construction is smoother to handle, more resistant to kinking, and preferred for decorative applications, ships' railings, garden fencing, stair handrails, and rustic interior design where the rope's surface finish is visible. Braided rope at the same diameter is typically slightly heavier than twisted due to the interlocking structure.

Core rope / binding rope: Smaller-diameter yarns (3–8 mm) with a tight-twist construction used as core cord inside other products (rope handles, bag drawstrings, product tie-on tags). Also used for gift wrapping cord and florist binding in retail supply chains across the UK and Europe.

Diameter guide by application
3–6 mmTwine and binding cord; product tags, gift wrapping, florist cord, agricultural tying twine for smallholdings
6–10 mmStandard packaging rope; sack closure, bale tying, bundling, light garden use and macramé
10–20 mmMedium-duty agricultural rope; crop support, livestock tethering, heavy garden fencing, net framing
20–40 mmHeavy packaging, pier and jetty fendering (temporary), stage décor, ship display rigging
40–60 mmDisplay and exhibition rope; large-scale maritime décor; heavy bollard rope for heritage and leisure venues
Markets & applications

Who Buys Jute Rope, and Why

Packaging & Logistics

Jute rope and twine for sack closure, bale binding and transit bundling. Commonly used across GCC distribution centres and European agricultural co-operatives. Biodegradable at end-of-life, unlike PP strapping.

Agriculture & Horticulture

Tying twine for tomatoes, runner beans and climbing plants; date-palm cultivation in Saudi Arabia and the UAE; bundling cut flowers and nursery stock. Jute rots away at season's end, no plastic to collect.

Craft, Décor & Retail

European and UK craft distributors import 6–12 mm braided rope for macramé, home décor, furniture wrapping, mirror frames and lamp-shade making. Eco-conscious retail brands use jute cord for sustainable gift wrapping and hang-tags.

Civil & Maritime Décor

Thick jute rope (30–60 mm) is used on pier installations, heritage vessel displays, leisure parks and heritage harbours across the UK and the Netherlands, where a natural-look aesthetic is required and the rope is not under structural load.

Export & container

Coil Packing and Container Loading

Jute rope is exported in coils, typically 5–50 kg per coil depending on diameter. Coils are wrapped in polythene film (inner) and hessian cloth (outer), a traditional export pack that protects against moisture ingress during ocean transit while allowing the rope to breathe during storage. Coils are palletised or floor-loaded into containers according to buyer preference.

Container capacities: a 20' FCL holds approximately 13 metric tonnes of jute rope; a 40' FCL approximately 26 metric tonnes. Exact payload depends on coil diameter and pack density. We provide a full container loading plan with each FCL shipment, including gross and net weights per pallet for port customs in Rotterdam, Hamburg, Jebel Ali and Dammam.

Rope exported to the UK is documented under the UK Global Tariff (HS 5607.10 for jute rope and twine). EU shipments use the same CN heading. We supply the Certificate of Origin (CO), Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and Bill of Lading as standard; Phytosanitary Certificate and SGS/Bureau Veritas inspection reports are available on request.

Good to know

Buyer FAQ, Jute Rope & Twine

Is jute rope as strong as sisal or hemp rope?

Tossa jute rope has comparable tensile strength to sisal at the same diameter for light-to-medium loads. Hemp rope is generally stronger at equivalent gauge and better for structural applications. Jute is preferred where biodegradability, cost-efficiency and aesthetics are the priorities, not where structural safety loads apply.

How does jute rope perform outdoors?

Jute rope is best suited for semi-sheltered outdoor and indoor use. Prolonged exposure to rain accelerates degradation, which is a benefit in agricultural applications (no clean-up needed) but a limitation for permanent outdoor installations. For long-term outdoor use, treated or waxed jute extends lifespan; or consider sisal, which is more weather-resistant.

Can you supply custom coil weights or rope lengths?

Yes. We can produce coils in custom weights and cut rope to specified lengths for retail-ready products. Minimum quantities apply for non-standard coil sizes. Include your target coil weight, length-per-coil (if applicable) and whether you need a pre-cut or continuous coil in your RFQ.

What is the difference between jute twine and jute rope?

Convention distinguishes twine (typically under 6 mm diameter, lighter-gauge, used for tying and binding) from rope (6 mm and above, used for structural bundling, décor and agricultural support). Both are produced by the same twisted or braided construction; the difference is diameter and load expectation. We supply the full range under one order.

Is natural jute rope compliant with EU eco-label requirements?

100% Tossa jute rope contains no synthetic additives in its standard form, making it compatible with EU eco-label and green-procurement criteria for natural biodegradable materials. Specific certification documents (fibre composition, biodegradability declarations) are available on request for buyers tendering to public contracts.
