How Many Jute Bags Fit in a 20ft Container? (FCL Guide)

For standard jute sacking, a 20-foot container holds roughly 19,500 to 24,000 bags, depending on bag size, weight and baling. Here are the typical FCL loads by bag type, and why they vary.

The short answer

A 20-foot container (FCL) holds roughly 19,500 to 24,000 jute bags for standard sacking. By type:

Typical jute bags per 20′ FCL
Bag typePer baleBales / 20′ FCLBags / 20′ FCL
B-Twill (44×26.5″, 2.25 lb)300~65~19,500
Binola (44×26.5″, ~2.0 lb)300~70~21,000
60 kg coffee (40×28″)500~48~24,000
50 kg rice / light (40×22″)400~55–60~22,000–24,000
Empty sandbags (compressed)variesn/a24,000–28,000

Why the numbers vary

Three things move the count: bag weight and size, how tightly the bales are pressed, and whether the bags are hydraulically compressed for shipping. Heavier sacks mean fewer per bale; empty compressed bags pack far denser than filled-spec bales. Treat these as planning figures and confirm the exact load for your spec.

Weight vs volume: which limits your load

A 20′ container takes roughly 28 tonnes of payload and about 33 m³ of volume. Jute bags are light for their bulk, so a jute load is almost always volume-limited: the container fills before it hits the weight limit, which is why bale count drives the number. Check the gross weight ceiling for your lane, as some cap lower.

20-foot vs 40-foot containers

A 40′ FCL holds roughly double the bags of a 20′, and a 40′ High Cube a little more again. For large orders a 40′ usually lowers freight cost per bag.

Quick answers

FAQ

How many 60 kg coffee jute bags fit in a 20ft container?

About 24,000, roughly 48 bales of 500 bags, in a 20′ FCL.

How many B-Twill jute bags fit in a 20ft container?

About 19,500, roughly 65 bales of 300 bags.

How many jute bags fit in a 40ft container?

Roughly double the 20-foot figure, so about 39,000 to 48,000 depending on type.

Are jute bag loads limited by weight or volume?

Almost always volume. Jute bags are light for their bulk, so the container fills before it reaches the weight limit.
